What to Expect from the IPL Procedure

IPL therapy is a quick and comfortable procedure that can be completed in under 1 hour. A numbing cream and eye drops are used to make our patients more comfortable. During your session, the trained dry eye specialist will apply a series of light pulses to the skin around your eyes. This light energy works to reduce inflammation and stimulate the meibomian glands, and promote the healing of styes and other forms of inflammation. You may experience a warm sensation during the treatment, but it’s typically painless and requires no downtime. One of our physicians will then perform deep cleaning and expression of the meimobian glands in each of your eyelids. Most patients begin to notice improvement after their first few sessions, with maximum results achieved after a full course of treatments.

Address Blepharitis, Dry Eyes & Styes with IPL Therapy

Blepharitis, dry eye syndrome and styes are common yet highly uncomfortable conditions that can significantly affect your quality of life. Blepharitis occurs when the eyelids become inflamed, often due to bacterial or Demodex infection or oil gland dysfunction, which can lead to dry eye syndrome. Styes are caused by blockages in these glands and can be equally painful and disruptive. Dry eyes occur when your eyes are not producing enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly, causing irritation, redness, blurry vision and discomfort. IPL therapy targets the root cause of these conditions, providing real, lasting relief.

What Causes Dry Eye Syndrome, Blepharitis and Styes?

Blepharitis can be triggered by a variety of factors, such as bacteria, Demodex, clogged oil glands, or skin conditions like rosacea. These issues can lead to inflammation and redness of the eyelids, which affects tear production. As a result, many people experience dry eye syndrome, a condition where the eyes either don’t produce enough tears or the tears evaporate too quickly. Styes are similarly caused by blocked glands, leading to painful, swollen bumps on the eyelids. Symptoms include burning, itchiness, blurred vision, and even discomfort while wearing contact lenses.

Benefits of IPL for Dry Eye and Blepharitis

IPL therapy offers numerous benefits for patients suffering from dry eyes or blepharitis:

Reduced Inflammation

IPL works by targeting and reducing inflammation, which is often the root cause of both conditions.

Improved Gland Function:

IPL helps restore the natural function of the meibomian glands, responsible for producing the oils that keep your eyes moisturized.

Long-Lasting Results

Many patients experience significant relief after just a few sessions, reducing their reliance on artificial tears.

Non-Invasive Treatment:

IPL is a quick, safe, and non-invasive procedure that requires no downtime.

Minimal Discomfort:

The treatment is gentle and well-tolerated by most patients, with little to no pain involved.
